Alpha Rho Chi!
Summer 2013 is coming to a close and the architects are flocking back to their favorite place on earth, Taubman’s studios!
Before we all get caught up in the coming semester, let’s take a moment to enjoy what the brothers and alums of APX have been up to!
Brothers
Patty Hazle
Sticking true to her architecture roots, Patty has been visiting numerous buildings, exhibits and spaces designed by some architects including Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, James Turrell and Kolomon Moser. I’m sure all you architects got excited just reading that! I’m looking forward to Patty’s work this year given this inspiring summer.
Aigerim Mangibayeva
While most of us spent our summer here in the states, Aigerim was off exploring the beautiful country of Kazakhstan. She also got over to Hong Kong for a bit, but that only made her appreciate Kazakhstan more. She is excited to get back in the fall and back to the studio!
Katie Lanski
Katie has been living the life, studying abroad for the second summer in a row! Definitely jealous of her right now. Last summer she found herself in South France, and this summer she is in Paris. She is currently working towards her French Minor, and what better way to do this, than spend two summers in France!? I bet she’ll have some great stories about French Architecture for when we get back.
Ashley Chang
Ashley spent her summer interning at Lehrer Architects in Los Angeles. When she wasn’t producing mind-boggling drafts, she was out enjoying the beautfiul state of California. Now she is just enjoying the rest of summer before heading back to UofM and kicking more butt in the studio.
Lena Pfeiffer
Another brother who has been having one heck of a summer is Lena. When she wasn’t working for her mom as a residential architect, she was going wild at concerts, biking around the country and exploring the beautiful outdoors of Virginia. Job + Concerts + Backpacking + Biking = 1 amazing summer!
Meghan Royster
In between dealing with awkward customers while waitressing, she has been fortunate enough to work with the ONLY NICE architect in the ENTIRE WORLD! Wow, what a lucky duck! Looking forward to seeing all the exciting work she has been producing.
Taylor Mortorff
Although he has been working a ton this summer, Taylor has been traveling around. He was out at the Chicago Pride Parade, with over 1 Million other people. I’m sure that was an insane time. After this, he was enjoying the beautfiul Niagra Falls over on the Canada side. Even with the fun he has been having, he is excited to get back and see all the lovely brothers.
Moe Alshadood
Moe has been working hard in Ann Arbor, but likes to get out to parks and into nature to see the world and take some pictures. Definitely keeping those creative juices flowing! You’ll have to share some photos with us.
Jeffrey Wong
He has been working for an hundred year old firm established by an English Architect (WOW!) Without a doubt, that was probably one amazing experience, and we all look forward to hearing about it in the fall.
Matt Rheingans
Unfortunately Matt was sick for a good part of the summer, but thankfully he recovered and has been getting ready for the LEED Associates Exam and the GRE. Good luck on both of these exams, and can’t wait to see you in the fall.
Zach Geimer
We got a rockstar in the room, everybody! Zach has been working hard with his band and performing shows around Michigan. Maybe we can get them to do a show in Ann Arbor and get the brothers out there! Can’t wait to hear some tunez!
Alyse Renee
She was off exploring Germany for the start of summer and is now continuing to work for Vera Bradley in Ann Arbor. I’m sure she has some great stories about Germany.
Brooke Dexter
Enjoying life along with some awesome music is what Brooke does best! Looks like she went to a festival up in Toronto. With all this fun, how is there anytime for work!?
Danny Francken
I was interning at USAA down in San Antonio, Texas. Before enjoying the corporate world, I was road tripping up to Alaska and enjoying the great outdoors. I cannot wait to be back in the fall and catch up with all the brothers!
Mugsy Kerwan
Besides missing Danica Patrick at work, Mugsy has been around Michigan, hitting up Tigers games and playing under par on every golf course known to man! He has also been working hard, making sure everything is running smoothly with the fraternity.
Lillian Candela
Working hard, making sure our gourmet food is up to the high McDonald’s standards. Recently she was awarded Employee of the Month for the entire Universe! We are all very proud of you, Lillian.
Our Awesome Alums
Aly Andrews
Aly traveled over to Vietnam in order to represent her architecture team in the Vertical Cities Asia 2013 Everyone Harvests competition. Some solid work coming from her, and its always great hearing from our Alums. Check out her work here:

Allison Burrell
Along with Aly and 2 others, they designed a concept which “creates a niche for Union Station as a place to gather and disseminate information as well as people”. Sounds interesting and hopefully it went well for them. You can see their project here:

Dan Marty
Dan is interning over at The Los Angeles Design Group and I’m sure has been working hard on some outstanding stuff.
Alex Pageau
Alex was fortunate enough to get hired full time for a tech company, working on cameras and vision for robots! Hopefully this isn’t the start of Skynet, but it looks like he is working on some futuristic stuff! When he isn’t working on robots, he was camping with friends, getting locked out of his car and illegally fishing! Sounds like a great summer!
Gregory Wolfe
Greg has been working over at the Crisler Center, repairing a leaky water fixture, keeping our school beautiful! Along with this, he enjoyed a 140 mile bike trip from Ann Arbor to Midland. I enjoy bike trips down to the Arb, but Greg enjoys biking across the state!
Pictures
Some brothers didn’t send me any updates, but I have Facebook, so here are some awesome pictures of our brothers having fun in the sun this summer.
Looks like it has been one amazing summer, with lots of hard work, beautiful places and great memories. I hope everyone has been enjoying themselves with whatever crazy adventure they’ve been getting into.
I cannot wait to see you guys in the fall!
APX 2013. Get ready for another great year!
